The Osun State Police Command has invited the Commander of the Osun Amotekun Corps, High Chief Dr. Isaac Adekunle Omoyele, to provide concrete proof of an alleged assassination attempt on his life by yet-to-be-identified gunmen.

The development comes barely 24 hours after the Amotekun Corps announced that Omoyele was attacked late Monday night while driving home from work along Ikirun Road, in the Kobo area of Osogbo.

The body claimed its Commander narrowly escaped death after being ambushed by armed men in a moving vehicle at about 10:05 p.m.

In related development, the spokesperson of the Osun Police Command, SP Abiodun Ojelabi confirmed that while Omoyele had indeed reported the case, a formal investigation was yet to begin.

According to Ojelabi, the police have asked Omoyele to bring the vehicle allegedly shot at and other material evidence to substantiate his claim before further investigative steps can be taken.

“According to the report he (Omoyele) made that he was attacked, the police have gone to the scene and we have told him to come along with the vehicle. He will have to produce the vehicle and other things to prove the incident before we can talk of an investigation,” Ojelabi said.

The alleged assassination attempt comes amid heightened tension surrounding the operations of the Amotekun Corps in Osun State.

Just a week earlier, operatives of the corps were accused of invading Akinlalu Community in Ife North Local Government Area, where three residents were reportedly killed and several others injured.
