Akpabio Swears In Two New Senators
The Nigerian Senate on Wednesday formally admitted two new lawmakers — Joseph Ikpea from Edo Central and Emmanuel Nwachukwu from Anambra South — following their victories in recent by-elections.
The Senate has now restored its complete membership of 109 senators with the induction of Senators Ikpea and Nwachukwu.
The oath-taking ceremony was conducted during plenary by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, with the Clerk of the Senate, Emmanuel Ojo, administering the oaths of office and allegiance to the incoming legislators.
The by-elections were held to fill vacancies created after Monday Okpebholo’s election as Governor of Edo State and the death of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah in July 2024.
In his remarks, Senate President Akpabio urged the new lawmakers to familiarize themselves with the legislative procedures and uphold the integrity and responsibilities of their office.
