Afrobeats superstar Davido on Sunday officiated the unveiling of a female students’ hostel at Clifford University, Ihie, Abia State, naming it in honour of his late mother, Dr Veronica Adeleke.

The event coincided with the institution’s 6th convocation ceremony.

Addressing the graduating class, Davido moved beyond his role as entertainer to adopt the mantle of mentor.

He urged the students to “lead with purpose and use their talents to impact lives,” stressing that “true greatness is defined by service, not fame.”

“Standing before the graduating class of Clifford University today… I felt something bigger than music. I saw a generation ready to change everything,” he posted on his X account.

The newly-commissioned facility, christened the Veronica Adeleke Female Hostel, serves as a tribute to his mother’s life and work.

According to Davido, Dr Adeleke — an educationist and philanthropist — believed firmly that “education and compassion could change lives.” He noted that the hostel “is a continuation of her purpose — turning love into legacy.”

Also present at the ceremony was nightlife entrepreneur Cubana Chief Priest, who pledged to sponsor the tuition fees of 50 students of the university as part of the day’s celebrations.

The management of Clifford University, including Vice-Chancellor Prof. Chimezie Omeonu, expressed appreciation for Davido’s contribution not merely in bricks and mortar, but in signalling the value of young people investing their gifts towards a larger purpose.
