Court Orders Hisbah to Arrange Marriage Between Viral TikTokers

A Magistrate Court in Kano has ordered the Kano State Hisbah Board to arrange the marriage of two popular TikTok personalities, Idris Mai Wushirya and Basira Yar Guda, within 60 days.

The directive, issued by Magistrate Halima Wali on Monday, October 20, 2025, came after the pair appeared in viral videos that the Kano State Films and Video Censorship Board described as “indecent” and contrary to the cultural and religious values of the state.

Magistrate Wali cautioned that failure to comply with the order within the stipulated period would amount to contempt of court. She also instructed the Chairman of the Kano State Films and Video Censorship Board to supervise the enforcement of the ruling.

According to the Censorship Board, the viral clips allegedly breached state laws prohibiting the creation and circulation of sexually suggestive or immoral content.

The two creators were recently arraigned before the court for producing and sharing the controversial videos on social media, where they were seen engaging in what officials termed “romantic displays.”

Mai Wushirya had previously been detained in a correctional centre after footage showing him shirtless and performing “inappropriate acts” circulated widely online.

His colleague, Yar Guda, was later interrogated by the Board’s enforcement officers before the case was brought before the court.
