“No Tax on Weddings, Burials” – Oyo Govt Clarifies

0 0

The Oyo State Government has dismissed as false a viral social media report claiming that residents will now be required to pay taxes on social functions such as weddings, naming ceremonies, and burials.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, the government described the report as a deliberate attempt to mislead the public and tarnish the image of the administration.

Prince Oyelade clarified that no such policy exists, adding that any genuine government-issued tax document must include an official Revenue Code, bear the signature of the Chairman of the Oyo State Internal Revenue Service, and carry the correct address — Oyo State Internal Revenue Office — none of which appeared in the circulating post.

He urged residents to disregard the misinformation and remain vigilant against politically motivated propaganda, especially as election season approaches.

The Commissioner further cautioned media practitioners and online publishers to verify information before dissemination to avoid spreading falsehoods capable of misleading the public.
