The Office of the Senate Deputy Minority Leader and Senator representing Osun West Senatorial District, Senator Lere Oyewumi has refuted a circulating report suggesting that the lawmaker is holding secret talks with leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in preparation for a defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In a statement issued by the Media Unit, Office of the Senate Deputy Minority Leader, Senator Oyewumi described the report as “baseless, malicious, and a deliberate fabrication by political detractors intent on sowing discord.”
The statement emphasized that the Osun West senator remains a committed, loyal, and active member of the PDP, under which he was overwhelmingly elected to represent his constituency.
“Senator Lere Oyewumi is not, and has never been, in talks with the ADC or any other political party about any defection. His political allegiance remains firmly with the Peoples Democratic Party,” the statement clarified.
The senator, who currently serves as the Deputy Minority Leader of the Senate, reaffirmed that his focus is on fulfilling his legislative mandate which is delivering quality representation and advancing development for the people of Osun West.
He described the defection rumour as a “regrettable distraction,” and said that such falsehoods are intended to derail his attention from the “critical legislative and oversight responsibilities” he owes his constituents and the nation.
Senator Oyewumi also reiterated his loyalty to the leadership of Governor Ademola Adeleke.
“The Distinguished Senator stands in total solidarity with Governor Adeleke’s vision and administration. Any claim of friction or disloyalty is entirely fabricated and should be dismissed outright,” the statement added.
The senator urged the public and PDP members to disregard the rumour and remain focused on unity and progressive collaboration within the party.
“Rather than entertain false reports, we call on all stakeholders to continue supporting the PDP-led government and work collectively for the advancement of Osun State,” the statement concluded.
