DSS Arrests Man in Rivers Over Alleged Call for Military Takeover

0 0

The Department of State Services (DSS) has taken into custody a man identified as Innocent Chukwuma in Oyigbo, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, for allegedly using social media to advocate a military overthrow of Nigeria’s democratic government.

Chukwuma, said to operate an account on X (formerly Twitter) under the handle @TheAgroman, reportedly made multiple posts urging the Nigerian military to take control of the government.

In one of his posts, he suggested that a coup was necessary to “reset” the nation, accusing the current administration of failing in its responsibilities and calling on citizens to back the armed forces in such an action.

According to security sources, intelligence officers had been tracking Chukwuma’s online activities for some time before his arrest.

Acting on credible information, DSS operatives apprehended him at his residence in Oyigbo without incident.

Preliminary investigations, sources said, show that the suspect has been cooperating with investigators as questioning continues.

The DSS is expected to release an official statement on the development as part of its broader efforts to curb subversive activities, maintain public order, and protect national security.
