The Deputy Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Hon. Muhammad Samaila Bagudo, has regained his freedom after spending about a week in the custody of armed men who abducted him in Bagudo town.
The lawmaker was kidnapped last Friday night shortly after observing the Isha’i prayer.
His abduction threw the community and the entire state into anxiety as security agencies launched an intensive search to secure his release.
Confirming the development, the Kebbi State Government, in a statement on Saturday, announced that the deputy speaker had been rescued through a coordinated operation involving security operatives and local vigilante groups.
The statement added that Hon. Bagudo was in stable condition and receiving medical attention, while expressing appreciation to all security agencies and individuals who contributed to his safe return.
It was gathered that the kidnappers had earlier demanded a large ransom, prompting community efforts and security negotiations. Though the government did not confirm whether any ransom was paid, sources within the area revealed that the rescue came after days of intense pressure from combined security forces.
