Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State has ordered the immediate suspension of the recently concluded recruitment exercise by the State Local Government Service Commission following reports of corruption and irregularities.

The directive was announced in a statement on Thursday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Linus Obogo.

According to the statement, the governor’s decision came after preliminary findings indicated widespread misconduct, employment racketeering, and procedural abuse in the recruitment process.

Governor Otu also accepted the resignation of the Commission’s Chairman, Mr. Darlington Eyo, who was allegedly linked to the irregularities.

He explained that a new, transparent, and merit-based recruitment process would be organised to ensure fairness and rebuild public trust in the state’s local government system.

“I have constituted a special review committee to investigate the recruitment scandal and identify those involved,” the governor stated, adding that the committee would recommend appropriate disciplinary actions in line with his administration’s zero tolerance for corruption.

Governor Otu reaffirmed his commitment to integrity, transparency, and accountability, which he described as the core principles of his “People-First” governance approach.

He assured citizens that future recruitment exercises under his administration would strictly adhere to merit and competence to promote good governance and restore confidence in the system.
