The media office of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has reacted to his expulsion from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The office describes the action of the convention delegates in Ibadan as unserious and influenced by frivolity.
Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the FCT Minister, in a statement on Saturday, mocked the PDP leadership, saying those who purportedly expelled Wike merely travelled to Ibadan to “start their dirty December in November.”
According to him, the gathering was nothing more than a social event masquerading as a political convention, adding that whatever resolutions emerged from it should not be taken seriously.
“When people decided to start their own dirty December in November, one can’t but ignore whatever comes out of their mouths,” Olayinka said. “They gathered in Ibadan to do social party, enjoyed themselves and got intoxicated. They are free to say anything.”
He insisted that the actions taken at the convention lacked legitimacy, stressing that Wike and his supporters would not be distracted by what he termed “noise from a corner.”
The PDP had earlier announced the expulsion of Wike and several other prominent members over alleged anti-party activities. Further reactions are expected as the development continues to unfold.
