Plateau State Governor, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has openly dissociated himself from the decision by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to expel Nyesom Wike and other prominent members.
He said the move was neither discussed nor approved by the party’s key leadership structures.
In a statement late Saturday, Mutfwang cautioned that expelling major stakeholders at a sensitive period could further destabilise the party rather than strengthen it.
He said, “at this crucial moment for our party, I believe pursuing expulsions is neither prudent nor constructive. What the PDP needs now is calm judgment, unity, and genuine reconciliation.”
The governor emphasised that the expulsion of Wike, Ayodele Fayose, Samuel Anyanwu, and others did not go through the PDP Governors’ Forum or the National Executive Committee (NEC), stressing that such processes are essential for decisions of that magnitude.
“The move was not discussed at the PDP Governors’ Forum or presented to the NEC. It does not reflect my position or that of our leadership,” Mutfwang clarified.
He reiterated that the party’s strength lies in dialogue, inclusiveness, and collective engagement, urging stakeholders to avoid actions that could deepen internal divisions.
“Our strength lies in dialogue, inclusiveness, and collective engagement—not further division,” he said.
Mutfwang’s stance adds a new dimension to the internal crisis within the PDP as reactions continue to trail the controversial expulsions announced at the party’s national convention in Ibadan.
