Kwara State Government on Sunday confirmed the release of the 38 worshippers abducted during the recent attack on Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Oke Isegun, Eruku, in Ekiti Local Government Area of the state.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq (CON), who announced the development, described the rescue operation as “a major relief” and credited the freed abductees’ safe return to the “hands-on, personal intervention” of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.

According to a statement by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, the abducted worshippers regained their freedom on November 23, 2025, following days of coordinated intelligence work and field operations by multiple security agencies.

AbdulRazaq said the breakthrough would not have been possible without the President’s direct involvement, saying Tinubu halted his planned trip to the G20 Summit in South Africa to attend to the escalating security breaches in Kwara and Kebbi States.

He added that the President immediately ordered heightened security deployments to Kwara, underscoring what he described as Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to the safety of Nigerians.

The Governor specifically thanked the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Intelligence Agency (NIA) and the Nigeria Police Force, which recently deployed four new tactical squads to the state on the President’s directive.

AbdulRazaq also appreciated traditional rulers, religious leaders, community influencers and residents of the state for their goodwill and cooperation throughout the crisis.

The statement reads in part: “His Excellency is excited to announce the freedom of the 38 persons who were recently abducted in the attack on Christ Apostolic Church, Eruku.

The Governor is immensely grateful to President Bola Tinubu, GCFR, for his direct initiative that made this happen.”

The Governor reassured Kwarans of continued government investment in security infrastructure and inter-agency synergy to prevent future occurrences.

The rescued victims are expected to undergo medical examination, trauma management and debriefing before reuniting with their families.
