Governor Ademola Adeleke has approved the distribution of essential drugs and medical equipment to 332 Primary Health Centres across Osun State as part of efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery at the grassroots.
The exercise is being carried out by the Osun State Primary Health Care Development Board in collaboration with the National Primary Health Care Development Agency.
The Executive Secretary of the Board, Dr. Shina Igbalaye, disclosed this in a statement, noting that the drugs and medical supplies were procured by the Adeleke administration to improve access to quality healthcare for residents.
According to him, the initiative forms part of the state government’s plan to ensure that primary health centres across Osun are adequately stocked with basic medications needed to treat common illnesses.
He explained that the items to be distributed include antimalarial drugs, antihypertensive and antidiabetic medications, haematinics, antibiotics, antacids and analgesics.
Igbalaye said the availability of the drugs at the primary health facilities would help in the prevention and treatment of common health conditions among residents.
He urged members of the public to make use of government health centres and seek medical attention whenever they experience any health challenges.
“The distribution of these drugs is a major step towards improving healthcare services in Osun State. We encourage residents to visit the nearest primary health centre whenever they have health concerns,” he said.
He added that the distribution will commence soon, assuring that the Board is putting the necessary arrangements in place to ensure that all the health centres benefit from the exercise.
The initiative, according to the Board, is part of ongoing efforts by the Adeleke administration to strengthen the primary healthcare system and improve the well-being of residents across the state.
