Osun LG Crisis Weakens APC Ahead of Guber Poll — ALGON Media

A media platform, ALGONMedia, has listed what it described as ten key factors showing how the lingering local government crisis in Osun State may be weakening the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the forthcoming governorship election.
In a statement released to the press, the group said sentiment at the grassroots has increasingly shifted against the APC, with many residents blaming the party for the prolonged dispute over local government administration.
According to the statement, “Osun people at the grassroots understand in detail the legal controversy, and they mostly blame the Osun APC for deliberately twisting and lying about court judgments that sacked and re-sacked them in 2022 and 2024.”
The group further alleged that the handling of local government funds has triggered widespread concern among residents.
It described as criminal the alleged involvement of a commercial bank in the “illegal opening and custody of Osun local government funds,” adding that such actions violated existing financial laws governing the third tier of government.
It also claimed that many residents believe the crisis was orchestrated to frustrate development efforts by the state government.
“The public is particularly shocked and angry that the real reason for the APC’s conduct on Osun LG funds is to stop Governor Adeleke from executing commendable infrastructure development,” the statement said.
The group accused some council officials of insensitivity, alleging that they paid themselves “fat salaries and allowances while local workers were left to suffer.”
It added that such actions have deepened public anger, especially as the officials are described as unelected.
On tenure, the statement noted that “the illegal tenure, if any, of the Yes/No chairmen lapsed on October 26, 2025,” arguing that their continued stay in office has further fueled resentment among voters.
It also cited the imposition of levies in markets and motor parks, stating that such practices “widen public anger and validate the perception of the Osun APC as a lawless, anti-people party.”
The group added that attempts by the officials to seek tenure extension have reinforced negative public perception.
“The temerity of the illegal APC chairmen to seek an extension of tenure strengthens the view that the party has no regard for the voting public,” it said.
According to the statement, the occupation of council secretariats has disrupted local administration and affected service delivery. It alleged that the situation has “grounded local services” while the public perceives the state government as continuing to support key sectors.
On infrastructure, the group criticised recent rural road grading projects, saying they have “backfired” due to questions over legitimacy, quality of work, and reported high costs.
It further raised concerns over a reported plan to procure vehicles for security agencies using local government funds, alleging that such funds were unlawfully handled.
“The public is miffed that the chairmen are so audacious as to attempt to bribe the police with vehicles bought from stolen public funds,” the statement added.
