Osogbo Stadium to Be Upgraded to FIFA Standard — Governor Adeleke

By Waliu Adetokun, Osogbo

Governor Ademola Adeleke has said the ongoing remodelling of the Osogbo Stadium is aimed at upgrading the facility to meet FIFA standards and qualify it for international sporting events.

The governor made this known in Osogbo after inspecting the project during an early morning review session.

He also commended the contractor for the speed and quality of work on the stadium.

Adeleke noted that the upgrade would not only bring the facility in line with global standards but also increase its seating capacity from 4,000 to 15,000 upon completion.
“Upon completion, Osun will be qualified to host local and international events. Sports development will take a new tone.
Our young population will have a big supportive platform to develop their talents,” he said.

He expressed satisfaction with the involvement of foreign technical partners working alongside local contractors to ensure that the stadium meets the requirements for FIFA certification.

“In remodelling the stadium, we must satisfy global standards.

I am happy at the involvement of local and international experts to ensure we meet FIFA and all associated standards.

This is the way to go to finally integrate Osun into the mainstream of sports development in the country,” the governor added.

Adeleke also reiterated his administration’s commitment to repositioning the sports sector through key reforms, including the operationalisation of the Osun Sports Trust Fund and the Osun State Sports Commission.

“As a sport loving governor, I am eager to ensure that the Osun Sports Trust Fund becomes operational.

We are working round the clock to meet legal requirements and develop appropriate policy framework,” he said.

“We are also working to fully operationalise the Osun State Sports Commission.

This and other structures are being put in place to address the many challenges facing the sports sector.

I have a vision of an Osun state sports sector with modern facilities, an empowered workforce and big opportunities for sportsmen and women.”

The governor further commended the Deputy Governor, Prince Kola Adewusi, who also serves as Commissioner for Sports, for his commitment to the completion of the project.
