Oyewumi Named Campaign DG as Adeleke Unveils 52-Member Imole Council

By Waliu Adetokun, Osogbo

The Senate Minority Leader, Senator Akogun Kamarudeen Lere Oyewumi, has been appointed Director-General of the Imole Campaign Council 2026, ahead of the inauguration of the 52-member body by Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke.

The inauguration, scheduled for Wednesday, April 22, is seen as a significant step in the governor’s preparations for the August 15, 2026 governorship election in the state.

The Imole Campaign Council, described as the apex strategic organ of the re-election campaign, is expected to coordinate political activities and provide direction across all levels of the campaign structure.

Details released ahead of the inauguration stated that the council would provide “visionary leadership, strategic direction, and integrated coordination” to ensure effective mobilisation and a unified campaign effort.

The council will be chaired by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council at Osun State University, Prof. Wale Ladipo, while the Commissioner for Information, Barrister Kolapo Alimi, will serve as Deputy Director-General.
Barrister Pelumi Olajengbesi has been named spokesperson, with Hon. Prince Bola Ajao appointed as Secretary.

In addition, the lawmaker representing Ede North, Ede South, Egbedore and Ejigbo Federal Constituency, Rep. Bamidele Salam, will head the Media and Publicity Committee, while former Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Moshood Adeoti, will oversee Inter-Party Relations alongside other standing committees.
At the federal constituency level, campaign committees are to be established across the nine constituencies, while similar structures will be replicated in all 30 local government areas and the area office.

At the grassroots, ward campaign committees will be set up in all 332 wards, comprising party leaders, elected officials, and key stakeholders to drive mobilisation efforts.

The council is mandated to oversee the planning, execution and evaluation of campaign programmes, while also ensuring cohesion and discipline across all tiers of the campaign.

Political observers believe the appointment of Oyewumi as Director-General underscores the strategic importance of his role in coordinating the campaign and mobilising support ahead of the election.

The inauguration is expected to signal the commencement of intensified political activities across the state as the election draws closer.
