Lagere Flyover Critical to Ife Development, Ooni Tells Adeleke

By Waliu Adetokun, Osogbo

Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, has described the ongoing Lagere flyover and road dualisation projects as vital to the development of Ile-Ife and its environs.

The monarch spoke on Wednesday while receiving Governor Ademola Adeleke at his palace, where he commended the administration’s infrastructure drive across Osun State, noting that development was being felt beyond a single axis.
He said Lagere remains a strategic hub for residents across Ifeland, stressing that the projects are long overdue.

“For us, we commend your infrastructure projects at Lagere. That point is the melting point of all local governments across Ifeland. From all corners of Ife, we have one thing or the other to do at Lagere,” the Ooni said.

“The road and the flyover are needed at Ile-Ife. We appreciate your clear commitment to get the projects completed.

We urge you to compel the contractor to speed up the construction process,” he added.

The royal father also dismissed insinuations that development was limited to Ede, stating that the impact of governance is visible across the state.

“We have all seen that it is not Ede alone that is enjoying development.

All towns and villages in our dear state are feeling your impact. Under your leadership, Osun is looking good,” he said.

He offered prayers for the governor ahead of the next election, saying, “God gives and takes power. God anointed you and you have served well.

I pray for huge success at the poll. Continue to be godly with your clean heart. It will end in praise.”

Governor Adeleke, in his response, said his visit to Ile-Ife was part of efforts to monitor the progress of the Lagere projects and ensure their early completion.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to balanced development across the state.

“We are pursuing a just and inclusive infrastructure and developmental agenda for all parts of Osun State,” the governor said.

Meanwhile, members of the Igbekele Oluwa Cooperative Society turned out in large numbers at Enuwa, Ile-Ife, where they endorsed the governor for a second term.

The President of the society, Chief Abubakar Bulliaminu Olanrewaju, said the endorsement by over 30,000 members was a reflection of their confidence in the administration.

“Osun governance today is first class. We have all seen the roads and bridges in Ife and beyond. Salaries are being paid, and people are being taken care of. We have seen the difference,” he said.

“We are investing in this re-election because we don’t want the good work to stop. If possible, we want Ademola for a third term.

We will vote and stand by our votes. Our members are more than 30,000,” he added.

Responding, Adeleke thanked the group for the endorsement and reiterated his administration’s commitment to strengthening the cooperative movement as a tool for grassroots economic growth.

“The cooperative movement is of interest to me because grassroots financing is the lifeline of society.

The more vibrant the cooperative movement, the more buoyant the local economy,” he said.

“That is why our government is committing several billions of naira to the cooperative movement.

We are committed to increasing financing and strengthening your role as partners in our drive to grow Osun’s economy,” the governor added.

He urged members of the society to mobilise support ahead of the election, assuring them of continued support if re-elected.
