Adeleke Faults APC Agenda, Says Opposition Lacks Governance Ideas

By Waliu Adetokun, Osogbo

Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has criticised the policy agenda of the opposition, describing it as “a warped plan incompatible with the needs and aspirations of the people of Osun State.”

The governor spoke with journalists shortly after the 2026 May Day rally held in Osogbo, where he dismissed the programme put forward by the camp of Bola Oyebamiji as lacking depth and direction.

According to him, “what they have presented to the public is an ill-thought-out concoction, hurriedly packaged to deceive the people and conceal the confusion within their ranks over a clear governance agenda.”
Adeleke took particular exception to the opposition’s economic revival proposal, which includes the establishment of agro-processing zones across the senatorial districts.

He argued that such a plan was fundamentally flawed, noting that agricultural production must first be strengthened before any meaningful processing can take place.

“You cannot have processing value when there is little or no production. During their time in office, less than ₦100 million was allocated annually to agriculture between 2017 and 2022. That clearly shows where their priorities were,” he said.

The governor added that his administration has since focused on expanding agricultural output through tractorisation and seedling support initiatives, aimed at boosting both cash crop and food production.

On the issue of internally generated revenue, Adeleke accused Oyebamiji, a former Commissioner for Finance, of imposing taxes on artisans, traders and commercial motorcyclists without corresponding support for their welfare.

“He should explain to the people how much was given to cooperatives during their tenure. In contrast, our administration has disbursed substantial funds to cooperative societies to support small businesses and grassroots economic activities,” the governor stated.

Adeleke also dismissed the opposition’s promise to prioritise workers and pensioners through structured financing, describing it as misleading.

“It is a lie. These are the same people who failed to clear 20 months of half salary arrears when they had the opportunity. Why didn’t they use structured financing then, especially at a time when the state’s debt profile was increasing?” he queried.

Speaking on the technology sector, the governor described the opposition’s proposal to establish an “Osun Tech City” as lacking credibility, noting that there was no functional ICT policy throughout their years in government.

“Digital economy was completely foreign to them. Today, we have put in place an ICT policy and legal framework, and we are already implementing initiatives that are improving service delivery and creating opportunities for our people,” he said.

He further challenged Oyebamiji to account for the management of state investments during his time in office, including the Omoluabi Garment Factory, shopping mall projects and state owned properties in Lagos.

On infrastructure, Adeleke said the difference between his administration and the previous government is evident across the state.

“Osun people can see the contrast. We inherited numerous abandoned projects, and many of them have now been completed or are nearing completion. The era of unambitious handling of infrastructure is behind us,” he said.

Addressing healthcare and education, the governor criticised the opposition’s promise to ensure functional primary healthcare centres in all wards, calling for an explanation on the utilisation of a $20 million fund meant for that purpose under the previous administration.

“Till today, they have not explained how that fund was used. One of their aides even admitted that part of it was diverted to COVID-19 interventions, which is a clear violation of its intended purpose. Meanwhile, we have rehabilitated over 200 health centres across the state,” he said.

The governor urged residents to disregard what he described as attempts by the opposition to mislead the public, insisting that his administration remains focused on delivering good governance.

He outlined his administration’s updated five-point agenda, which includes integrated welfare and empowerment programmes, infrastructure consolidation, agro-industrial expansion, improved access to healthcare and education, and a more secure business environment.

“I have delivered effectively in my first term, and I will deliver even more in my second term,” Adeleke said.
