Adeleke Orders Arrest of Suspected APC Thugs Over Fresh Attacks in Osogbo
By Waliu Adetokun, Osogbo
Governor Ademola Adeleke has directed the Osun State Police Command to arrest suspected political thugs allegedly responsible for recent attacks on Accord Party billboards and public properties across Osogbo.
The directive was contained in a statement issued on Monday by the spokesperson to the governor, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, following renewed incidents of vandalism and destruction of public assets in parts of the state capital.
Adeleke warned that security agencies must act swiftly to prevent residents from resorting to self-help in response to the growing tension.
The governor accused the suspected thugs of escalating their activities from billboard vandalisation to attacks on government infrastructure and other public facilities.
He also urged the Commissioner of Police to stop what he described as the apparent shielding of the suspects and take decisive action against them.
While commending a team of policemen who reportedly foiled an attempt to destroy statues at the Abere Roundabout, Adeleke said security agencies must move beyond preventive efforts and ensure the arrest of those allegedly behind the attacks.
“I hereby direct the Commissioner of Police to immediately effect the arrest of Asiri Eniba and his gangs who are terrorising the state. They moved around in Sienna buses, Hilux jeeps and motorcycles, shooting sporadically. The police know them and the state command should do the needful,” the governor said.
He warned that the continued attacks on public facilities could threaten peace and security in the state if urgent action is not taken.
“These political criminals are now attacking public properties. Security agencies should prevent a scenario in which untamed thugs will set the state secretariat and other government buildings on fire,” Adeleke stated.
The governor further called on all security agencies in the state to intensify efforts at maintaining law and order.
“I call on all security agencies to rise to this urgent task of enforcing law and order and preventing anarchy. The police authorities must not wait for the public to resort to self-help before taking potent action,” he warned.
