Governor Ademola Adeleke has directed the immediate revitalisation of the Safe School Initiative in Osun State following recent school kidnapping incidents in neighbouring Oyo State.
The directive, issued on Saturday, is aimed at preventing any possible spillover of insecurity into Osun schools, particularly those located in border communities and remote areas.
In a statement signed by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke ordered the Ministry of Education, security agencies and other relevant government bodies to immediately strengthen existing safety measures across schools in the state.
The governor also directed security agencies to intensify intelligence gathering around schools, especially in vulnerable rural and border communities.
As part of the renewed security measures, the Osun Amotekun Corps was instructed to deepen collaboration with non-governmental peace and security organisations already supporting security operations in several schools across the state.
Adeleke assured parents, guardians and school authorities that his administration remains committed to the safety of pupils and students across Osun.
“We are resolved to secure our pupils across our school system. Necessary steps are ongoing to improve security of schools especially in rural areas. The existing safe school plan will be strengthened,” the governor said.
He further directed the Commissioner for Education and the Special Adviser on Security Matters to work together on the implementation of the revitalisation plan and engage relevant service commanders across security agencies.
“The Commissioner for Education and the Security Adviser are to meet to firm up the revitalisation plan. I assure parents and school authorities of their safety and protection,” Adeleke added.
