Shettima Leads Borno APC Primary As Gubio Emerges Governorship Candidate

By Waliu Adetokun, Osogbo

Vice President Kashim Shettima on Thursday led members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Borno State to the party’s governorship primary election, where Engr. Mustapha Gubio emerged as the APC governorship candidate for the 2027 election.

The primary election, held in Maiduguri, was attended by Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, party leaders and other stakeholders across the state.

Addressing party members after the exercise, Shettima urged APC members to remain united and committed to the party’s success ahead of the 2027 governorship poll.
He called on members to put aside their differences and work together for the overall victory of the APC.

“Whatever we do here is part of the broader agenda of the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to ensure a better future for Nigeria and Nigerians,” the Vice President said.

“The time has come to walk the talk, and only credible leaders can make this unfold into a pleasant reality for the citizens.”
Shettima described the emergence of Gubio as a reflection of the party’s collective resolve to present credible candidates capable of delivering economic growth, security and development for the people of Borno State.

He further appealed to party faithful to “bury hatchets, get united and commit to the success of the party,” stressing that unity remained essential to the APC’s victory in the election.

Governor Zulum, in his remarks, appreciated party stakeholders for their support and endorsement during the primary process.

Speaking after emerging unopposed, Gubio promised to sustain the developmental strides recorded in the state and provide purposeful leadership if elected governor in 2027.

“I will lead with the fear of God and continue to advance the development of Borno State,” he said.

Among dignitaries present at the primary were APC Deputy National Chairman (North), Hon. Ali Bukar Dalori, Senator MT Monguno, Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan, Ambassador Baba Ahmed Jidda, members of the National Assembly, the Speaker and members of the Borno State House of Assembly, commissioners and other party stakeholders.

The Vice President later departed Maiduguri for Abuja after participating in the exercise.
