Osun LG Crisis: Osun Gov’t, OSSIEC Writes Security Agencies, Seeks Implementation of Court Order

By Sola Isola
The Osun State Government has written to the security agencies in the state notifying them of a court ruling that removed the APC sacked Chairmen from Office, as it seeks to implement the High Court ruling dismissing the tenure elongation cass instituted by APC.
In two separate letters signed by Oluwabusola Oluwaniyi, Senior Partner, Musbau Adetunmbi and co and addressed to the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 11, Osun State, and The State Director, Department of State Security, Osun State, the firm said it was acting on behalf of Osun State Government.
“We act as solicitors to Osun State Government and Osun State Local Government Councils and on their firm instruction we write in respect of the above highlight.
“Following the judgment of Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo rendered on Monday 15th June, 2026, per Hon, Justice Adefunmilola Demi-Ajayi which dismissed the tenure elongation suit filed by the sacked APC Chairmen who hitherto hijacked the local government secretariats across Osun State, the Executive Governor of Osun State gave an executive order directing the police to remove the illegal APC chairmen and ensure the safety of all local government staff and smooth resumption of the elected council Chairmen elected on 22nd February, 2025.
“It is to be mentioned that the sacked APC Chairmen specifically prayed the court in their case to allow them continue in office, for the 2025 local government election to be voided, for the oath of office of the 2025 elected local government Chairmen to be invalidated, to restrain the defendants not to remove them (sacked APC Chairmen) from the council secretariats, and for the court to mandate the police to continue to provide security for them at the local government secretariats.
“All the reliefs specifically sought by them were expressly refused by the court and their Originating Summons dismissed in its entirety. A certified true copy of the enrolment of order of court is hereby attached.
“We must add that there has not been any order by any court staying the decision or granting any injunction against the implementation of the judgment as filing of an appeal or an application for stay is not itself an order of court to restrain implementation of the judgment.
“Against the background of the foregoing, we hereby implore you to act accordingly by removing the illegal occupiers and ensuring safe resumption of duties of the duly elected officials.”
In another development, the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) has also written the State Director, Department of State Security stating that the validly elected council officials in Osun were elected in the February 2025 Local Government Election.
In a letter signed by J.A Ayanyemi on behalf of its Executive Security, OSSIEC stated that no court of law has ever invalidated the elections conducted by our Commission into all the Local Government Offices on 22nd February, 2025
The letter reads in part, “Please, receive from me the very warm compliments of Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC).
“I write to inform your good office that on 22nd February, 2025, elections were conducted into offices of chairmen and councillors in Osun State, candidates of Peoples’ Democratic Party won all the seats.
“It’s on record that no court of law has ever invalidated the elections conducted by our Commission into all the Local Government Offices on 22nd February, 2025. Thus, as the umpire, whose duty is the conduct of Local Government Elections, the Commission needs to put the record straight that the sacked APC chairmen and councillors have no business occupying our Local Government Secretariats, moreso that all the reliefs sought by them at Federal High Court, Osogbo were not granted.
“We must also put on record that our Commission’s core mandate is to recruit political leadership into the local government at the appropriate time, the latest of which by our records was the 2025 local government election. On Monday 15th June, 2026, the Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo dismissed the tenure elongation case instituted by the sacked APC Chairmen.
“A certified true copy of the enrolment of order in the judgment is herewith attached. Part of the reliefs specifically sought was to invalidate the 2025 local government elections which the court refused in its entirety. The bottom line is that the Chairmen and Councilors elected on 22nd February, 2025 are the legitimate officials of Osun local government council areas.”
