NELFUND Refunds to Student Ongoing- Unilesa Management
The management of University of Ilesa, Osun State has said that tution fee refunds to beneficiary of the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) in the university is currently on going.
The University management refutes some media reports listing it among institutions who have failed to refund students describing the report as false, misleading and inconsistent with facts.
In a statement by Babatunde Fanawopo, Senior Assistant Registrar, Corporate Services and Information Unit, University of Ilesa, the management noted that 3,993 students of the university benefited from the 2026 NELFUND disbursement out of which 2,734 successfully accessed the fund adding that the university has begin processing repayment to students in different phases.
The statement reads, “The Management of the University of Ilesa, Osun State has noted with concern recent media reports listing UNILESA among institutions alleged to have failed to refund tuition fees paid by students who later benefited from the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).
“The University categorically refutes this allegation as false, misleading, and inconsistent with the facts.
“At no time has the University failed or refused to refund eligible students whose tuition fees were subsequently paid through the NELFUND scheme. On the contrary, the University has consistently and diligently processed refunds for qualified beneficiaries in strict accordance with extant financial regulations and the operational guidelines of the NELFUND programme.
“The Management states unequivocally that the University of Ilesa will not engage in any act capable of undermining, frustrating, or discrediting the successful implementation of the NELFUND initiative.
“Available records indicate that for the 2026 NELFUND disbursement, a total of 3,993 students of the University of Ilesa benefited from the scheme. This comprises 1,254 students in the First Batch and 2,739 students in the Second Batch. Of this number, 2,734 students successfully accessed their loans through Wallet funding, a clear indication of the effectiveness of the University’s implementation process.
“Regarding students who had earlier paid their tuition fees prior to NELFUND disbursement, the University has continued to process refunds in phases. Specifically, 168 students in the First Batch and 106 students in the Second Batch have received their refunds. An additional 122 students have also had their refunds processed, bringing the total number of students refunded to 396. Furthermore, 133 refund requests are currently being processed. Some other beneficiaries are yet to complete the required processes or make decisions concerning their loan offers.
“The University assures all concerned students that every genuine refund request is receiving priority attention. The processing of outstanding refunds is contingent upon the completion of verification procedures, confirmation of bank account details, and other administrative requirements designed to ensure transparency, accuracy, and accountability.
“Students requiring clarification or assistance are encouraged to visit the NELFUND Desk Office located in the University Bursary Department. Dedicated officers are on ground to facilitate verification, confirm banking details, and resolve outstanding issues to fast-track the processing of refunds.
“The University of Ilesa remains unwavering in its commitment to transparency, accountability, and due process in the administration of the NELFUND scheme.”
