Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke has said that the vision of his administration is to make Osun state a global tourism point and place Osun on the global tourism map.
While speaking on Friday at the 2023 Osun-Osogbo festival in Osogbo, the Osun state capital, the Governor noted that its part of his administration’s plan to effect a tourism and cultural industry agenda with programmes and policies for the arts, culture and tourism industry.
He added that to make the 2023 Osun-Osogbo festival more lively and attractive, his administration has facelifted the Osun groove and new features to the celebration to deepen its international appeal.
Governor Adeleke thereafter directed the Commission for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Abiodun Ojo to give effect to the tourism and creative industry agenda of the administration as spelt out in the transition committee report.
The Governor said “As a government, our administration has a tourism and cultural industry agenda. During the campaign and within the transition committee , we devised far reaching programmes and policies for the arts, culture and tourism industry. We indeed created a new holistic approach by adding the creative industry as a whole.
“Our agenda targets the genuine globalization of our cultural heritage as a major building blocks of our economy. We expand beyond mere celebration of Osun Osogbo festival and other assets to making them the cornerstone of a truly cultural and tourism industry. We are creating a series of global cultural events that will attract millions of tourists all over the world. We are integrating our local economy into a global creative and cultural industry.
“Hence our rich cultural heritage will become a cherished product of value at home and abroad. Our agenda is to create a Saudi Arabia and Jerusalem out of Osun State as the cradle of the Yoruba race.
“As a starting point , our administration has facelifted the Osun groove. You all can see the improvement. We have added new features to the celebration to deepen its international appeal.
“I commend our team that worked tirelessly to rebrand this festival. Long before the cabinet was put in place , a small team of tourism professionals designed a template to uplift this festival. We appreciate you
“I am therefore using using this platform to direct the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism give effect to the tourism and creative industry agenda of the administration as spelt out in the transition committee report. He is also to work with other team of professionals to make a reality my vision of making Osun a global tourism point.
“We have to place Osun state on a global tourism map. We have cultural richness and heritage. We are the centre of Yoruba nation. The position of Osun State is pivotal to all Yoruba people at home and abroad.
“Ladies and gentlemen, Osun is experiencing a rebirth in her governance. Her cultural life is changing for the better. We must count ourselves lucky for witnessing the arrival of imole in our society.”
