Osun State Government says it has invoked the ‘no work, no pay’ rule starting on the striking employees of the Osun State Polytechnic, Iree.
The government’s decision was contained in a memo signed by the acting Registrar of the institution, Mr. Abiodun Oloyede.
The leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, Ospoly chapter had declared industrial action following the suspension of the Rector, Dr Tajudeen Odetayo, over alleged abuse of office and financial impropriety.
But the government directed the management of the polytechnic to reopen on Monday as the panel it constituted to investigate the issues that led to Odetayo’s suspension continued its assignment.
However, on realising that the workers refused to return to their duty posts, the management in a new memo obtained in Osogbo stated,
“Sequel to the government directive that the institution should reopen fully on Monday 14th August, 2023, the Chairman, Governing Council of the Institution, Hon. Diran Ayanbeku, has directed that all staff of the Institution should report unfailingly to commence the suspended part-time students first semester examination immediately.
“As a result of this, the chairman directed that attendance registers should be opened in the Personnel Unit of the institution’s registry for the staff to indicate their attendance daily.
“The government has declared the ‘no work, no pay’ rule on staffers, who refuse to resume to duty as from Monday, 14th August, 2023.”
