0 0

The Osun State Police Command, through its Public Relations Office, has issued a press release to refute the recent circulation of false information regarding a palace fire incident in the state.

In a public service announcement, designated as No. 74/2023, the police command clarified that the news trending on social media platforms is misleading and designed to instigate unnecessary fear and insecurity, particularly in the communities of Ilobu and Ifon.

Contrary to the false reports, it was not a palace but a traditional mud house, serving as the ancestral residence of the Okanla family, located in Ilobu town, that was set on fire. Fortunately, prompt action by the diligent officers from the Divisional Police Headquarters in Ilobu ensured that the fire was extinguished promptly. However, an unfortunate incident occurred as a vehicle parked near the house was also set ablaze, resulting in the tragic death of a twenty-five-year-old man named Qudus Jimoh. The circumstances surrounding his death are presently under investigation by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Osogbo.

The Commissioner of Police (CP) in Osun State urges the citizens to disregard any reports of a burnt palace, whether in Ifon or Ilobu. The CP reassures the public that the necessary security measures have been put in place by the State Government in the affected areas to prevent any potential breakdown of law and order.

This announcement was electronically signed by SP Opalola Yemisi Olawo Yin, mnipr, the Police Public Relations Officer, acting on behalf of the Commissioner of Police in Osun State Command, Osogbo. The Osun State Police Command remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents in the state.
