The twenty medical students who were abducted in Benue State were on Friday rescued by security operatives.

It would be recalled that the medical students were abducted last Thursday along the Otukpo/Otukpa/Enugu federal highway while travelling to Enugu State for the Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students’ annual convention.

The Office of the National Security Adviser coordinated the operation.

The rescue effort involved security agencies, including the police, DSS, and military personnel, along with support from the Benue State government.

Following their abduction, the IG team arrived in Benue State on  Monday and was promptly deployed to Otukpo in search of the abducted students.

The release of the students was confirmed by the Force PRO, Olumuyiwa Adejobi in an x post on Saturday.

Adejobi, in the post, said, “Release of 20 medical students and others. We confirm the release of our brothers and sisters and some other Nigerians who have been in captivity on Friday, 23rd August 2024, in Ntunkon forest, Benue State.Without any ransom paid.

“Contrary to some tweets and unconfirmed stories that some money was paid, no kobo was paid to release them. They were actually rescued tactically and professionally.

“We commend the security agencies, locals, and ONSA for their commitment and resilience.”
