Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State has clarified that a controversial dress code document currently circulating on social media is not the official version approved by the university’s governing council.
In a disclaimer issued by the Registrar, K. A. Bakare, the university acknowledged that while the council has indeed approved a dress code for students.
“Although Council has approved a dress code for the students of the University, what went viral was not the document approved by Council. However, we do hope to release the official dress code version in due course, directed at enhancing academic sensibilities, social decency and ethical standard in line with the University’s motto ‘for learning and culture’,” the statement partially read.
The Registrar thereafter urged members of the public, students, and stakeholders to await the release of the official version, which is designed to uphold academic focus, social decorum, and the ethical values for which OAU is renowned.
