The Osun State House of Assembly earlier today passed the Electricity Bill, 2025, which lays the foundation for the Osun State Electricity Regulatory Commission (OSERC).
OSERC would be a state-controlled body empowered to oversee the generation, transmission, and distribution of electricity within the state.
This is another milestone in the administration of Governor Ademola Nurudeen Adeleke as he continues to drive Osun toward self-sufficiency and infrastructural transformation.
This move follows the constitutional amendment that decentralised power management in Nigeria, giving states the authority to develop and regulate their own electricity sectors.
This development is a clear reflection of Governor Adeleke’s forward-thinking agenda and deep commitment to improving the living standards of Osun residents through sustainable energy solutions.
Speaking at the Assembly’s plenary session, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun, praised the Adeleke administration for its vision and policy clarity, describing the bill as “a product of executive foresight and legislative synergy.”
The Electricity Bill is expected to open the doors for private sector investment, improve power supply across urban and rural communities, and reduce the state’s dependency on the national grid.
With the establishment of OSERC, Osun is poised to become a model for electricity governance among sub-national entities in Nigeria.
The bill now awaits the Governor’s assent, a formality many believe will happen swiftly, given the administration’s proactive role in initiating the policy.
Monday’s legislative achievement is yet another proof that Governor Adeleke’s government is not only people-centered but is steadily delivering on its promise to reposition Osun as a modern, self-reliant, and economically vibrant state.
