The National President of the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE), Comrade Biyi Adeyeye, has lauded the Osun State Government under the leadership of Governor Ademola Adeleke for the recent passage of the Osun State Electricity Market Bill into law, describing it as “bold, transformative, and visionary.”

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Comrade Adeyeye applauded the combined efforts of the Osun State House of Assembly and the Adeleke-led administration in positioning the state as a frontrunner in energy sector reform, following the recent constitutional amendment that devolved power over electricity to state governments.

“This is a landmark achievement. The passage of this bill shows that Osun State is forward-thinking and ready to take its economic destiny into its own hands,” he said.

The NUEE President hailed the bill as a catalyst for economic growth, job creation, and industrial development.

He noted that the establishment of a state electricity market and regulatory commission opens the door for massive investment in both off-grid and renewable energy systems.

“This development will attract both local and international investors, create jobs, stimulate industrialization, and ultimately improve the quality of life of Osun residents,” he added.

Particularly, Comrade Adeyeye commended Governor Adeleke for his courage and strategic foresight in initiating the bill.

He praised the Governor’s swift response to the constitutional opportunity by laying a solid legal foundation for Osun’s energy autonomy.

“This is the kind of progress we have advocated for over the years. Osun has now set the pace. Others should emulate this path,” he said.

He further assured that electricity sector unions are ready to collaborate with the Osun government to ensure the implementation of the law is done in a manner that both enhances electricity access and safeguards workers’ welfare.

“Governor Adeleke and the Osun State House of Assembly have taken a courageous and commendable step. We urge the state government to move quickly into full implementation so that the dividends can be felt by the people,” Adeyeye concluded.

With the law now passed, Osun is poised to take full charge of its power sector. This is an unprecedented move that stakeholders say could significantly fast-track development under Governor Adeleke’s people-first administration.
