Youths in Asi town, Odo-Otin local government area of Osun State on Thursday protested against the Alasi, Oba Isaac Oyewale, alleging the monarch of excessive behaviour, high handedness and abuse of office.
Armed with placards bearing varying inscriptions, the youths expressed their displeasure against Oba Oyewale, whose actions they claim has brought embarassment to the town.
Speaking with journalists, the youth leader of Asi town, Samuel Olawoyin, the youth leader of the town accused the traditional ruler of land grabbing.
“We can’t condone our king’s behavior anymore. He is used to embarrassing us. He uses force to grab people’s lands and give unjustifiable judgment on us. It is high time he stops doing such.”
“He claims ownership of lands that don’t belong to him, When people protest, he uses his position to intimidate them,” Olawoyin said.
Prince Ademola, a prominent member of the community, also alleged that Oba Oyewale mismanaged the N19.5 million proceeds from the 2025 Asi Day celebration.
“The king should stop all his bad behaviour. He should respect the rights of his subjects and not use his position to oppress them. One of the major issues against him is the alleged mismanagement of funds generated during the Asi Day celebration in 2025.
“We learnt that 19.5 million was generated, and it was agreed that the funds would be used to build a modern shopping complex. However, nothing has been done so far, and we are demanding accountability,” Ademola noted.
When approached for comments, Oba Oyewale Isaac refused to speak with the media. His refusal to address the allegations has further fueled the protesters’ anger and frustration.
However, the Asiwaju of Asi land, Mr. Yinusa Ademola, assured the youth that everything will be resolved.
“The people in authority have waged in,” he said. “We should remain calm and let the authorities handle the situation.”
The protesters vowed to continue their agitation until the king addresses the situation.
As at the time of filing this report, there is palapable fear and tension within the community, as residents await the impending turn of events.
