Governor Adeleke Orders Immediate Intervention on Iwo–Osogbo Road Ahead of Major Reconstruction

Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, has directed the Ministry of Works to commence immediate palliative repairs on the severely damaged portions of the Iwo–Osogbo Road.

This is in a renewed demonstration of his administration’s responsiveness and commitment to infrastructural renewal.

The directive, which comes amidst growing concerns over the deteriorating condition of the road—especially during this peak of the rainy season—aims to provide immediate relief to motorists and commuters pending the commencement of full-scale reconstruction.

According to Mallam Olawale Rasheed,
Spokesperson to the Osun State Governor, the procurement process for the comprehensive rehabilitation of the critical inter-local government road has reached its concluding phase. However, to prevent further hardship, Governor Adeleke has ordered swift remedial measures to restore accessibility across the most affected sections.

Recent assessments revealed that certain segments of the road have been significantly eroded, with deep gullies threatening to split the carriageway and restrict access between Iwo, Ayedire, Olaoluwa, Ejigbo, Egbedore, and Ede local government areas and the state capital.

Acting on the Governor’s directive, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Works has mobilized a team of engineers to carry out an on-the-spot evaluation and design an emergency rehabilitation plan.

The palliative work is expected to kick off by Tuesday, according to the schedule released by the ministry.

Reassuring residents of his administration’s readiness to see the project through, Governor Adeleke disclosed that a new implementation strategy has been developed to expedite the reconstruction process.

The road project, previously awarded during the concluding days of the last administration, will now be divided into three segments and handled concurrently by three contractors—including the original contractor—for timely delivery.

“We have almost concluded the procurement process, and contractors will soon be mobilized to site. Our delay is only due to our resolve to comply strictly with the provisions of due process and procurement regulations,” the Governor stated.

“Our people in Iwo, Ayedire, Olaoluwa, Ejigbo, Egbedore, and Ede should rest assured that this road—so central to their socioeconomic life—will be reconstructed and completed. We are determined to break the cycle of abandoned road projects,” he added.

Governor Adeleke reiterated that his government remains focused on providing infrastructure that promotes economic growth, community integration, and improved quality of life for Osun residents.
