The administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke has issued a proactive safety advisory to residents of Otan-Ayegbaju and Iragbiji in response to forecasts indicating a high likelihood of heavy rainfall and potential flooding in the coming days.

This warning follows an official prediction from the Federal Ministry of Environment’s Department of Erosion, Flood, and Coastal Zone Management, which anticipates significant rainfall between July 31 and August 4, 2025.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Emergency Management, Hon. Emiola Fakeye, emphasized that the state government, under the leadership of Governor Adeleke, is taking decisive steps to safeguard lives and properties.

“Governor Adeleke places the utmost importance on the wellbeing of our citizens. In light of the forecast, we are appealing to residents in low-lying and flood-prone zones to relocate temporarily where necessary and to observe all safety protocols,” Fakeye stated.

To mitigate the potential impact of the anticipated downpour, the Osun State Government has already commenced large-scale desilting and clearing of water channels across vulnerable communities.

According to Hon. Fakeye, these measures are intended to improve water flow and reduce flood hazards.

“These interventions are part of Governor Adeleke’s responsive governance approach. We advise residents to remain vigilant, comply with safety directives, and report any emergency situations promptly. Prevention is key,” she added.

Also speaking at the media engagement, the General Manager of the Osun State Emergency Management Agency (OSEMA), Mr. Abiola Oni, highlighted the importance of community cooperation in maintaining functional drainage systems.

He urged residents to refrain from indiscriminate dumping of refuse, which obstructs water passage and aggravates flooding.

“Our people must take responsibility at the grassroots level. Flooding can only be effectively managed when we all work together—government and citizens alike,” Oni explained.

Mr. Oni noted that the state’s emergency teams have been mobilized and are on standby to respond swiftly to any reported incidents. He encouraged the public to reach out to OSEMA’s office on Elizabeth Road, Abere, for further inquiries or support.

This timely alert reinforces the Adeleke administration’s commitment to responsive leadership, disaster preparedness, and citizen welfare.
