As the ancient city of Osogbo braces for the grand finale of the globally renowned Osun Osogbo Festival, the Osun State Amotekun Corps has announced the deployment of no fewer than 500 operatives across strategic locations to bolster security and ensure a peaceful celebration.

In a statement released on Tuesday by the Corps’ Public Relations Officer, Yusuf Idowu Abass, the Amotekun Commander, Isaac Omoyele, disclosed that the move is part of a comprehensive security strategy under the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke, aimed at safeguarding the lives and property of residents, tourists, and dignitaries expected at the Friday, August 8 event.

“This proactive measure is part of the Corps’ commitment to ensuring a peaceful and hitch-free celebration during the revered cultural event,” Omoyele stated.

He added that operatives will be visible and strategically stationed at major festival venues, convergence points, and access routes, including undercover personnel working discreetly to detect and deter any threat to public safety.

Omoyele warned that the Corps would not tolerate any form of criminality during the festivities. “Let it be clear: anyone apprehended disrupting public peace or engaging in any criminal activity will face the full weight of the law,” he said.

He further described the Osun Osogbo Festival as not just a cultural celebration but a symbol of Osun’s heritage and an event that draws global cultural tourism attention to the state.

“We will not allow any person or group to undermine the peace and sanctity of this revered celebration. Amotekun operatives will be fully alert and strategically positioned to ensure that law and order are maintained throughout,” he said.

The Corps Commander also urged festival-goers to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity to security personnel nearby, stressing that the safety of citizens and guests remains non-negotiable.

“We urge everyone to celebrate in moderation. If you notice anything unusual in your environment, please alert the appropriate authorities. Our operatives are there to serve and protect,” Omoyele advised.

He reiterated that the Osun Amotekun Corps, working in synergy with other security agencies, remains unwavering in its mandate to protect lives and maintain order before, during, and after the festival.

The deployment is seen by many as another testament to Governor Ademola Adeleke’s commitment to proactive governance and community-centered security under his administration’s “Imole Ayo” agenda.
