The Ajalaye of Ipetu-Ijesa, His Royal Majesty Oba Samson Adeleke Agunbiade Oke Agunbiade III has suspended Chief Gbenga Ajibade from his position as High Chief Ejimo of Ipetu-Ijesa over his alleged involvement in the attempted murder of a suspected maize thief in Ilesa.

The development, which marks a significant turn in the ongoing poisoning scandal, was confirmed by Mr. Isaac Haastrup, media aide to the Owa Obokun Adimula of Ijesaland, Oba Clement Adesuyi Haastrup in a Facebook post yesterday.

Chief Ajibade’s suspension by the monarch follows mounting public outrage after disturbing images and videos emerged on social media showing the brutal assault on the victim, identified as Ebenezer, who alleged that he was forcibly made to ingest a harmful substance.

The Ajalaye’s decision comes just days after the Ijesa Sports Club announced Ajibade’s suspension as a member, pending the outcome of police investigations.

Both actions reinforce the growing resolve within Ijesaland’s leadership to protect the integrity of institutions and uphold the sanctity of human life.

Palace sources told Osun Spring that the Ajalaye of Ipetu-Ijesa “acted swiftly to preserve the dignity of the traditional stool” and to demonstrate that no titleholder is above the law.

The victim, Ebenezer, who recently spoke out to debunk rumours of his death, remains in need of medical and financial assistance after losing his father to shock upon hearing of the attack.
