The management of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State, has raised alarm over the disappearance of one of its students, Miss Dorcas Oseghale, a 300-level student of the Department of Chemistry, who has not been seen for four days.
A statement issued on Sunday by the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Olanrewaju, confirmed that the case has been reported to the police for immediate investigation.
According to the university, Dorcas, with matric number CHM/2021/165, was last seen on the evening of Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at about 8 pm. She reportedly left her residence at Adesanmi House, Ibadan Road, Ile-Ife, to buy food at the Students’ Village along Ede Road but never returned.
Her roommate, identified as Miss Akinkuade Omobolanle Beatrice, from the Department of Agricultural Extension, became worried when several attempts to reach Dorcas on her two mobile lines failed, as both numbers were unreachable.
Olanrewaju disclosed that at about 3 pm on Thursday, August 7, 2025, the university’s Security Unit picked up discussions on students’ social media platforms about a missing student. By 6:10 pm the same day, a group of concerned students from the Department of Chemistry, accompanied by the roommate, formally reported the case to the Security Unit.
Given the sensitivity of the matter and the limits of its internal resources, the Security Unit assigned three of its officers to join the student search party and later escalated the case to the police.
Reacting to the incident, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Simeon Bamire, commended the students for their vigilance and swift action in reporting Dorcas’ disappearance.
He urged the police and other security agencies to deploy all necessary resources to locate the missing student. He also appealed to members of the public with useful information to contact the nearest police station or the university’s Security Unit.
“We are deeply concerned about Dorcas’ safety and wellbeing. Any information, no matter how small, could make a difference,” the VC said.
