An Islamic pressure group, Concerned Muslim Brothers (CMB), has condemned the continued withholding of Osun State’s local government allocations.
They describe the action as “anti-Allah, anti-people, and un-Islamic.”
In a statement signed by its State Coordinator, Ustaz Jamiu Akorede Ajenisua, the group accused Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), and Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, of masterminding the six-month seizure of funds due to the state’s 30 local government councils.
The group said it had dispatched protest letters to the leadership of the League of Imams and Alfas and the Presidency, urging immediate intervention to end what it described as oppression, repression, and victimisation of the people of Osun—many of whom are Muslims.
According to the letter, the withheld allocations which have been blocked since February 2025 were meant to finance the salaries of primary school teachers, local government pensioners, community health facilities, and traditional rulers across the state.
“The conduct being exhibited by these individuals is unbecoming of a Muslim. A Muslim should submit to qadar, uphold fairness and justice to all manners of people, submit to Allah and believe in Him at all times,” the group stated.
CMB accused the ministers of acting deliberately to punish Osun people despite knowing the truth, warning that such acts contradict Islamic injunctions on justice and fairness.
The group urged the Islamic clerical leadership to “talk to these two sons to fear Allah and do what is right,” reminding them of the inevitability of accountability before Allah on the Day of Judgment.
“Your intervention will serve as a justification for you on earth and on the day of Qiyaamah that you have indeed performed a religious act by condemning an evil using your power, influence and tongue,” the letter read.
The group emphasised that Islam mandates those in authority to uphold justice and fairness, stressing that the continued seizure of Osun’s local government funds is a direct attack on grassroots governance and the welfare of the people.
The Osun State Government has consistently maintained that the funds’ withholding is without legal or political basis, especially after the Court of Appeal validated the February 22, 2025 local government elections that produced the current elected chairmen and councillors.
