Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to maintain transparency and accountability in the funding of security services.
He added that the state does not operate a “security vote” in the way many Nigerians understand it.
In a statement issued on Friday by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, the Governor stressed that Osun has no slush fund under any guise, as he explains that all security-related expenditures are executed strictly in line with public finance laws and regulations.
According to him, such funding covers operational support for security agencies, interventions to quell communal crises, support for peace-building activities, and the operations of the Amotekun Corps, among others. All of these are processed through the statutory approval procedure involving memos and compliance with government payment processes.
“I am proud to declare that the Osun State Government under my watch does not operate a slush fund that our media friends call security votes.
“Our security needs are met through the approval process. I have faced resistance over this policy, but I stick to it even at great cost,” Adeleke said.
The Governor explained that his stance was informed by the financial realities he met on assumption of office in November 2022.
With Osun’s numerous developmental challenges, he said every kobo must be channelled towards critical projects in infrastructure, agriculture, health, workers’ salaries, pensions, and clearing outstanding debts.
He revealed that his administration had, in less than three years, recorded verifiable achievements acknowledged by local and national stakeholders, adding that a special project account was created to save unplanned inflows from FAAC allocations — a move he described as a “shock absorber” to guarantee completion of ongoing infrastructure projects.
While expressing optimism that the lingering local government fund seizure would soon be resolved, Governor Adeleke assured residents and stakeholders that his government remains focused on delivering both human and capital projects as promised.
“Our commitment is unwavering,” the Governor declared. “We will complete what we started — for the people and the future of Osun State.”
