The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has raised concern over the large number of uncollected Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in Osun State.
The Commission disclosed that no fewer than 360,794 PVCs are still in its custody.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, Dr. Mutiu Agboke, made this known through the Commission’s Public Relations Officer, Musa Olurode, in a statement issued on today, Tuesday, August 26 in Osogbo.
Agboke, who described the figure as disturbing, appealed to eligible voters to take advantage of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise to pick up their cards.
“We are appealing to all eligible voters who, for one reason or another, have not collected their PVCs, to visit any of our 30 local government offices or the Modakeke area office between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. daily to pick up their cards,” he said.
The Commission also warned that while fresh registration is ongoing, multiple registration is prohibited and could lead to data invalidation.
INEC stressed that the unclaimed PVCs represent thousands of citizens excluded from the democratic process and urged political parties, civil society organisations, religious leaders, and traditional rulers to mobilise residents for prompt collection.
The REC reiterated that collecting PVCs is as crucial as voter registration, since citizens cannot participate in elections without them.
