The Osun State chapter of the League of Imams and Alfas has thrown its weight behind Governor Ademola Adeleke, as it urges President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to order the immediate release of withheld local government allocations to the state.
At a well-attended meeting held in Osogbo on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, the religious body reviewed key national and state issues, ranging from the ongoing voter registration exercise to the protracted local government administration crisis in Osun and controversies within the Southwest Muslim Ummah.
In its communiqué signed by the leadership, the League commended President Tinubu for his economic reforms while offering prayers for the success of his administration.
It, however, raised concerns over the hardship caused by the prolonged withholding of local government allocations in Osun, adding that grassroots communities were bearing the brunt.
The body praised Governor Adeleke for his “diplomatic and consensual-based leadership style” which it said had ensured peace and stability despite the challenges posed by the local government dispute.
The clerics also applauded his strict adherence to the rule of law, particularly his respect for the June 22 ruling of the Court of Appeal affirming the legitimacy of elected PDP chairmen and councillors.
“We call on all parties to comply with the dictates of the law as exemplified in the judgment of the Court of Appeal. The governor’s approach of peace and due process is a smart strategy that has prevented the crisis from snowballing,” the communiqué read in part.
The League appealed directly to President Tinubu to order the release of the allocations and accord full recognition to the elected PDP officials, stressing that anything short of this would amount to a disregard for the Constitution and the Electoral Act.
It further charged Muslim political office holders at the federal level, particularly those from Osun and Kwara, to treat this as a sacred duty to the Ummah.
On voter registration, the clerics lauded Osun residents for turning out in large numbers, placing the state at the top of the national table.
They, however, advised registrants who had yet to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to do so without delay, describing participation in elections as a religious duty.
The meeting also called for calm among scholars in the Southwest Muslim community, urging that sensitive religious debates be taken off social media platforms and handled with decorum.
