It was a carnival-like atmosphere at the Osun State Secretariat in Osogbo earlier today, Thursday, August 28 as thousands of public servants trooped out in a massive appreciation rally for Governor Ademola Adeleke
The civil servant reaffirm their endorsement of his administration and declaring support for his second term bid.
The workers, led by the Head of Service, Elder Ayanleye Aina, gathered at the Secretariat gate, singing solidarity songs and dancing in excitement. They also carried different placards with inscriptions such as “Osun Workers are solidly with you,” “Imole is 4+4,” “We won’t go to Egypt Again,” and “Deep thanks to Imole.”
Addressing the rally, the State Chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Christopher Arapasopo, described Adeleke’s government as “a workers’ government.”
He also praised his consistent commitment to workers’ welfare.
“We assemble here to thank you for all you do for workers. You are one of us, a leader who cares deeply for us. Let the world know that Osun workers remain firmly behind our Governor now and all the time,” Arapasopo declared, reaffirming the workers’ endorsement of Adeleke for a second term amidst cheers from the crowd.
In the same vein, the State Chairman of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Comrade Bimbo Fasasi, echoed the NLC’s position. He stressed that Adeleke had demonstrated unmatched consistency in addressing workers’ needs and aspirations.
“We are totally with the Governor. We reject any attempt to drag Osun back to the evil past. This show of force is to affirm our loyalty to good governance,” Fasasi said.
The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Comrade Kehinde Ogungbangbe, took a swipe at the opposition, warning against illegal tampering with local government accounts.
“It is illegal to peon local government accounts without statutory signatories as provided by law. We are sending a message to the Ministers of Justice and Finance that Osun workers are with the Governor. He has been consistent in paying salaries despite the seizure of local government allocations,” he said.
Also speaking, the Joint Negotiation Council (JNC) Chairman, Comrade Lekan Adediran, backed the NLC, TUC, and NULGE, describing Osun workers as “united in their endorsement of Governor Adeleke for a second term.”
Elder Ayanleye Aina, the Head of Service, who mobilised the rally, lauded Adeleke for his transformational policies and welfare-driven approach to governance.
“You are not only delivering good governance to the state but also prioritising the welfare of the workforce across ministries and agencies,” Aina noted.
Responding, Governor Adeleke described the rally as a manifestation of “true love and endorsement by Osun workers.”
“I am overwhelmed by your show of love since I took over in 2022. Workers’ welfare remains the first item on my five-point agenda. Expect more goodies and services. I urge you to collect your voter cards, mobilise your families, and sustain good governance through continuity of responsive leadership,” the Governor charged.
