The Osun State Police Command has intensified its onslaught against cultism and other violent crimes.

The effort has led to the arrest of six suspected cultists and the recovery of firearms and other dangerous weapons across the state.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abiodun Ojelabi, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, the command disclosed that the arrests were made during separate sting operations carried out by operatives of the Anti-Cultism Unit in Osogbo and Okuku.

The suspects arrested include Taiwo Oluwatobi (29), a.k.a. Orife; Oluwabusuyi Ajayi (29), a.k.a. Aga; Ayodeji Ismail (20); Owolabi Omobolaji (20); David Oluwatomisin (26); and Kolawole Segun (22).

According to the statement, two of the suspects were nabbed on August 21, 2025, during the student union week at one of the higher institutions in the state. Both confessed to being members of the Aiye Confraternity and Buccaneer Confraternity (Alora).

Similarly, on August 19, 2025, police detectives stormed Okuku town following credible intelligence that suspected Aiye cult members were terrorising residents. Four suspects were apprehended in the operation and reportedly confessed to cult membership during interrogation.

In another development, the police foiled an attack in the Gbeja area of Oke-Baale, Osogbo, where armed hoodlums suspected to be members of the Eiye confraternity, led by a notorious suspect identified only as Gafari, fled on sighting security operatives. A raid on their hideout led to the recovery of weapons, including:

One cut-to-size single-barrel gun

One cut-to-size double-barrel gun

Five cutlasses

One axe

Three live cartridges

CP Gotan assured that the suspects in custody will be charged to court upon completion of investigations, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing cultists.

He further reiterated the command’s determination to rid Osun State of cult-related violence and other criminal activities.

He thereafter urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to aid policing efforts.
