Osun Amotekun Apprehends 9 Suspects For Theft, Burglary, Rape

The Osun State Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun Corps, has disclosed it has apprehended nine suspects across different locations in the state for offenses ranging from livestock theft to burglary and rape of minors.

This was disclosed by the Yusuf Idowu Abass, the Public Relations Officer of the Corps earlier today.

He said, “in a major arrest by the Amotekun Corps in the Oriade Local Government Area, a 56-year-old man, Ayo Akinpelu, was taken into custody for allegedly stealing two goats in Ipetu-Ijesa. The suspect, a native of Ondo Town in Ondo State, was intercepted after concerned residents reported suspicious activity to the Oriade Command of the Corps.

“According to reports, the suspect had concealed the stolen goats inside his Lexus SUV. He was stopped by vigilant members of the community who insisted on inspecting the vehicle, leading to the discovery of the animals. Unable to provide a credible explanation, the suspect was immediately handed over to the Amotekun operatives who swiftly responded to the scene.

“During interrogation, Akinpelu confessed to the crime and further revealed that he has been involved in goat theft for over seven years.

“He admitted to using the stolen animals to prepare pepper soup in his beer parlour in Ondo Town, where he serves unsuspecting customers. The suspect further explained that he uses salt to lure the goats and render them less aggressive during the theft.

” Disturbingly, Akinpelu is an ex-convict who had previously been jailed for a similar offense but was later released on bail. He confirmed that he frequently traveled to Osun communities to steal goats for his illicit business,” he said.

Speaking to newsmen in Osogbo, the Corps Commander of the Osun Amotekun, Chief Dr. Hon. Adekunle Isaac Omoyele, confirmed the arrest and praised the swift action of the residents of Ipetu-Ijesa.

“Our operatives responded promptly to a distress call from the residents, leading to the successful apprehension of the suspect. During interrogation, he confessed and even admitted to being an ex-convict for the same crime. This reinforces our commitment to rid the state of criminal elements,” Chief Omoyele stated.

In a separate operation, the Amotekun Corps arrested two individuals for burglary at Oluponna, in Olaoluwa Local Government Area of Osun State. Sodiq Adeshina (30), a bricklayer by profession, and his accomplice Kareem Marouf (25), an electrician, were caught stealing electrical appliances and cables from an uncompleted building.

Following intelligence reports, Amotekun operatives tracked down and arrested the suspects. Items recovered from the scene and subsequent searches include electrical appliances and wiring materials valued at over ₦450,000.

The suspects confessed during interrogation that they had been selling the stolen items to a known buyer in Iwo before their luck ran out.

A young man named Elijah Olawale (26), a residence of Ijebu-Ijesha community was arrested by Amotekun Operatives upon the complaint by his wife for having canal knowledge of her daughter of 9 years old. During the interrogation process, Elijah confessed to defiling her wife’s daughter some Three(3) years ago and happened to lay with her recently which led to his arrest. He made it known that he has taught in schools and couldn’t fathom what led him to committing such disgraceful act.

Another similar case from an indigene of Akwa-Ibom State who was on a labourer farming work in modakeke, Osun State, identified as ThankGod Friday, a 26 years old and residence of Modakeke along Ife- Ibadan express road raped his employer daughter of 12 years old. He confessed to rapping her twice which led to his handling over to the Operatives of Osun Amotekun to face the full wrath of the law by his Boss.

In the same vein, Adeleke Sodiq, a 60 years old man forcefully gained his access to the body of a 6 years old toddler of Ode-omu residence, Osun State. The old man who was caught rapping the toddler pleaded and confessed his first time of perpetrating act. He lured the child with money in other to deceive her into entering his room and raped her in the process.

On September 8, 2025, at around 5:30a.m., operatives of Amotekun in Ilesa apprehended three suspects involved in a series of burglary and theft incidents at the popular Atakumosa Market. Acting on a tip-off, the security team arrested Ayo Akanni (22), Bamiwo Sogo (18), and Bamiwo Israel (18) while they were committing the crime.

The suspects later led the operatives to their hideout, where various stolen items—electronics, household utensils, building materials, provisions, and beverages—worth millions of naira were recovered.

Commander Omoyele reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to community safety and proactive intelligence gathering.

He urged residents across Osun State to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activities to the nearest Amotekun command or relevant security agencies.

“We remain resolute in our mandate to secure lives and properties in Osun State.

Let this serve as a warning to all criminal elements there is no hiding place. Every suspect arrested will be thoroughly investigated and charged to court accordingly,” he added.

All nine suspects are currently in custody and will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of ongoing investigations.
