The Osun State Emergency Management Agency (OSEMA) has issued a fresh flood alert to residents of Ilesa, Otan-Ayegbaju, Iragbiji, and other parts of the state.

According to the General Manager of the Agency, Mr. Biola Oni, the advice follows recent predictions by the Federal Ministry of Environment, through its Department of Erosion, Flood and Coastal Zone Management, and the National Flood Early Warning Centre.

He explained that the latest forecast, released on Thursday, September 11, 2025, reaffirms an earlier warning of September 9, 2025, indicating that the listed towns and surrounding communities may experience heavy rainfall between September 11 and 13, which could result in serious flooding.

In a press statement signed by Mr. Biola Oni and made available to journalists, residents were strongly advised to take proactive steps to safeguard lives and property.

The statement partly reads “The safety of our people remains a top priority for Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration. In anticipation of the rains, the state government has already commenced preventive measures such as clearing and dredging of rivers, streams, and waterways to minimize flooding risks. Additionally, OSEMA has embarked on statewide sensitization campaigns on flood preparedness and safety. We remain deeply concerned about the impact of flooding and are committed to ensuring that no life is lost,” Mr. Oni stated.

He further appealed to residents of flood-prone areas to heed official warnings, remain vigilant, and prioritize personal and community safety, emphasizing that prevention is always better than cure.
