Court Bars UBA From Releasing Withheld Osun LG Allocations To Yes/No Chairmen

An Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan has issued an order restraining the United Bank for Africa (UBA) from paying out funds belonging to the 30 Local Government Areas of Osun State until the conclusion of an ongoing legal dispute.

The interim order, granted on Friday by Justice A.L. Akintola of Court 5, arose from an ex-parte motion brought by the Osun State Attorney-General.

The suit, numbered 1/1149/25, contests the legality of accounts opened and operated by local government chairmen and councillors previously removed from office under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In his ruling, Justice Akintola held that releasing the allocations at this stage could result in “irreparable damage” to the state, and therefore directed UBA not to honour withdrawals or disbursements from the affected accounts until the application for interlocutory injunction is heard.

The case has been adjourned to October 3, 2025.

The order followed the Federal Government’s release of long-held allocations into the disputed accounts earlier that day, a move which prompted the Osun State Government to act swiftly in court.

Subsequently, the state’s lead counsel, Mr. Musibau Adetunbi, SAN, wrote to UBA’s headquarters in Lagos and its Osogbo branch, listing the 30 accounts covered by the order.

In the letter dated September 26, he reminded the bank that all necessary legal documents had been served and stressed its obligation to comply with the directive.
