…Says council secretariats remain unsafe for resumption

The Chairperson of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Osun State Council, Comrade (Dr.) Christopher Abimbola Arapasopo (mpi), has reaffirmed the Congress’ support for members of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) in the state.

He also urged them to remain resolute and united amid the ongoing political unrest across local government councils.

Dr. Arapasopo, in his address during the 2025 World Teachers’ Day celebration in Osogbo, commended NULGE members for their courage, compliance, and steadfastness in obeying the union’s directive to withdraw their services.

He described their collective action as “a show of discipline and solidarity in the face of political intimidation.”

He warned against any attempt to compel workers to return to their duty posts, insisting that “the council secretariats are not yet safe for resumption of duties.”

“Ignore the cry from the pit of hell to lure you back into the lions’ den. The NLC stands solidly behind you. Your safety and welfare remain our top priority,” he declared.

The NLC chairperson cautioned members against succumbing to “political shenanigans designed to deceive and divide workers,” adding that the union would continue to protect the interests of all local government employees across the state.

In a related development, Dr. Arapasopo issued a stern warning to the management of United Bank for Africa (UBA), calling on the financial institution to adhere strictly to labour laws and regulatory obligations in its dealings with workers and unions.

“UBA must not toe the path of illegality. Any attempt to infringe on workers’ rights or disregard existing labour standards will be met with lawful resistance,” he cautioned.

He revealed that the Labour Movement would not hesitate to mobilize picketing or other industrial actions against any organization that violates workers’ rights or undermines collective bargaining agreements.

Dr. Arapasopo reaffirmed that the NLC remains a bastion of democratic principles and the defender of the masses, emphasizing that organized labour in Osun will continue to resist oppression in any form and ensure that justice prevails for every worker.
