….Party urges security agencies to arrest perpetrators, vows Osun will not return to dark days of thuggery
The Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned in strong terms the reported attack on residents of Apomu, Isokan Local Government Area, allegedly carried out by political thugs loyal to Bola Oyebamiji, a governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the State Chairman of the PDP, Hon. Sunday Bisi, described the violent incident as “a shameful display of irresponsibility by a man who has abandoned his national assignment for needless political brigandage in Osun State.”
According to the statement, the attack, which reportedly left several residents injured, occurred during what the party described as Oyebamiji’s “ill-fated political gathering” in the area.
Hon. Bisi said it was unfortunate that a man currently holding a sensitive national position could engage in actions capable of undermining public peace and endangering lives.
“Rather than focusing on his federal duties, he now traverses Osun communities, causing chaos and endangering lives in pursuit of his selfish and delusional ambition,” the PDP Chairman stated.
The party alleged that the incident in Apomu was a direct consequence of reckless mobilization of thugs by the APC aspirant, noting that it reflects a pattern of conduct unbecoming of a public official.
“This is a man who, only a day earlier, arrogantly visited Akinlalu, addressing the monarch with empty promises in his usual manner of deceit and political theatrics. A man who cannot manage his political emotions has no business managing a national agency,” Bisi added.
Describing Oyebamiji’s alleged conduct as “a stain on the integrity of the Presidency that appointed him,” the PDP called on security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), to launch a full investigation into the attack and bring all culprits to book.
“If Bola Oyebamiji himself is found culpable, he must be made to face the full weight of the law,” the statement emphasized.
The ruling party further cautioned the opposition APC against attempts to “plunge Osun into chaos for political gain,” warning that the era of political thuggery and intimidation in the state was over.
“Under Governor Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, Osun has moved beyond the dark days of violence and bloodletting. The people have chosen peace, progress, and responsible governance. We will not allow any desperate politician to drag our state backward,” Hon. Bisi declared.
The PDP appealed to residents of Isokan and across the state to remain calm and law-abiding, assuring that Governor Adeleke’s administration remains committed to peace, justice, and citizens’ protection.
“Osun belongs to all of us, and we will not permit any individual, no matter how powerful, to sow seeds of chaos in our peaceful land. Bola Oyebamiji and his cohorts must be reminded that the era of impunity is long over,” the statement concluded.
