The Federal Government has issued an early warning of possible flooding in parts of Osun and Ekiti states following forecasts of heavy rainfall between October 19 and 23, 2025.
The alert, released by the National Flood Early Warning Center (FEWS Center) under the Federal Ministry of Environment, cautioned residents of Ado-Ekiti and Ijero-Ekiti in Ekiti State, as well as Ilesa in Osun State, to prepare for potential flooding during the forecast period.
According to the statement signed by Usman Abdullahi Bokani, Director of the Erosion, Flood and Coastal Zone Management Department, the ministry urged relevant state agencies and local authorities to activate preventive and response measures to minimize the impact of the expected downpour.
“The following locations and their environs are likely to witness heavy rainfall that may lead to flooding within the period of prediction: 19th–23rd October 2025,” the statement read.
It further called on stakeholders and representatives of state governments to remain vigilant and provide timely feedback to the center to aid in monitoring and coordination efforts.
The Ministry emphasized that proactive steps such as clearing drainage channels, relocating from flood-prone areas, and avoiding indiscriminate waste disposal could significantly reduce the risk of flooding and its attendant damage.
The latest alert comes amid growing concerns over climate-related disasters and their effects on communities across Nigeria, particularly during the peak of the rainy season.
