Osun Govt Debunks Report of Decay at State Hospitals

The Osun State Government has dismissed reports alleging that the State Specialist Hospital, Asubiaro, Osogbo, and other government health facilities are in a state of decay under the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke.

Reacting to a viral online publication circulated by Osogbo Updates 48 hours ago, the Permanent Secretary of the Hospitals Management Board (HMB), Dr. Abayomi Oni, described the report as misleading and far from the reality of the current state of healthcare delivery in Osun.

The publication, titled “State Specialist Hospital, Asubiaro-Osogbo in Darkness: Resident Laments Decay at Hospital, Urges Urgent Action,” alleged that the hospital operates in total darkness and is poorly maintained.

However, Dr. Oni said the claims were exaggerated and untrue, adding that the facility remains fully functional, safe, and well-staffed.

“The power challenge referenced in the report is not peculiar to the hospital,” Oni explained. “Like other parts of Osogbo and indeed the country, the hospital currently receives less than three hours of public electricity supply daily. However, management ensures that critical areas such as emergency wards and theatres are powered through alternative means.”

He described the State Specialist Hospital, Asubiaro, as the flagship of secondary health facilities in the state, offering specialized services and attending to over 10,000 patients monthly, a testament to its active operations.

The Permanent Secretary also faulted the allegation that patients were being referred to private hospitals due to lack of facilities, stressing that such practice contradicts hospital policy and medical ethics.

Dr. Oni further added that the hospital environment remains clean, secure, and properly maintained, with monthly imprest funds provided by the state government for regular maintenance, cleaning, and fumigation.

“These funds are judiciously utilized to sustain hygiene and ensure a conducive environment for both patients and staff,” he added.

He urged the public to disregard the false report and always verify information before sharing, describing such misinformation as capable of undermining public trust in government institutions.
