Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has accused the opposition of deliberately blocking the release of over N100 billion belonging to the state’s local governments.
He added that the move is an attempt to frustrate his administration’s infrastructural development agenda.
Governor Adeleke made the allegation on Wednesday during an inspection tour of the Lagere Flyover Bridge and other ongoing projects in Ile-Ife.
He said the seized funds were meant to finance key infrastructure projects that are central to the government’s development blueprint.
According to him, the withheld funds have slowed down progress on several critical projects across the state, including the Ile-Ife Flyover Bridge, Ilesa township dualisation, Iwo township road dualisation, Ila Orangun township dualisation, reconstruction of the Iwo–Osogbo Road, and the Lameco Flyover Bridge in Osogbo.
“Almost N100 billion of Osun fund is unjustly seized in a bid to stop the completion of the Ile-Ife flyover, Ilesa township dualisation, Iwo township road dualisation, Ila Orangun township dualisation, reconstruction of Iwo-Osogbo Road, and the Lameco flyover bridge, among others. The opposition has unfortunately chosen to play politics with the urgent need of our people to exit decades of underdevelopment,” he said.
The governor expressed concern that the alleged obstruction was politically motivated, warning that such actions could hinder the delivery of social and economic benefits to the citizens.
He maintained that his administration remained focused on transforming Osun through massive investment in roads, education, healthcare, and rural infrastructure.
“Our people deserve development, not political games. The infrastructure revolution we have embarked upon is for every citizen of Osun, irrespective of party affiliation. We will continue to deliver on our promises despite the challenges,” the governor added.
